Hurricane Wood Salvage and Reforestation

We currently have operations on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Nicaragua. We're processing and exporting fallen tropical hardwood timber products from areas that were devastated by hurricane Felix in 2007, and planting hardwood timber plantations on spent pastureland on the Pacific coast.

Welcome To Our Company

Maderas Sostenibles S.A.(MSSA) is a Nicaraguan company involved in the reforestation and sustainable management of tropical forests. The Company is actively engaged in reforesting the area devastated by Hurricane Felix in 2007 and harvesting the fallen tropical hardwood. MSSA also is actively engaged in reforesting pastureland in the Pacific Coast area of Nicaragua. The Company intends to implement a five-year plan to reforest the hurricane-damaged forest, harvest and process the fallen hardwood, and invest in extensive reforestation in the Pacific region, near the Costa Rican border. We offer both large and small scale opportunities to invest in reforestation.

Company History

Maderas Sostenibles was formed in 2007 for the purpose of reforesting pastureland in the SW Pacific Coast region of Nicaragua in the Department of Rivas. The Company’s plan included partnernerships with landowners to reforest spent pastureland with tropical hardwoods, including teak, mahogany, and pochote. MSSA Pacific Coast operations now include both the initial planting of hardwoods and the sustainable management and maintenance of the forest. We offer various opportunities for timber investments, ranging from small teak parcels to large reforestation projects.

In late 2007, Hurricane Felix, a Category 5 hurricane, struck the RAAN, the northeast department on the Atlantic side of Nicaragua. Felix destroyed the existing tropical forest and the fragile local economy. In January 2008 Maderas Sostenibles began salvage extraction operations in the Greiton area of RAAN. The Company has built a forestry camp and nursery, has begun the harvest of fallen hardwood, and has constructed a sawmill in Rosita. MSSA is processing the hurricane salvage wood and selling it as sawn lumber. MSSA is partnering with local landowners to harvest the hurricane hardwood and reforest the hurricane zone.
